Gorgeous Staffordshire, England blue and white transferware platter featuring two scenes of a fox hunt or steeplechase. The first scene shows four horses and riders over fences, with one rider taking a tumble from his horse. I alway thought of this scene as When a feller needs a friend! The second scene shows two horses and riders about to take a fence.A buck is clearing the fence was he is pursued by a dog. Both scenes also feature stylized foliage and trees. This platter measures 16 by 12.25 by 1.25 tall. The underside of this platter is unmarked. I believe this platter was a second in the old days as though the blue transfer is excellent, the glaze has some pocks and marks - please see pictures.
